Facebook launches 'Moments' app in India...

NEW DELHI: Social networking giant Facebook said it was introducing a new standalone app called Moments which would enable users to share photos privately. 

"Syncing photos with the Moments app is a private way to give photos to friends and get the photos you want. Moments groups the photos on your phone based on when they were taken and, using facial recognition technology, which friends are in them," Facebook said in a release. 

"You can then privately sync those photos quickly and easily with specific friends, and they can choose to sync their photos with you as well. Now, you and your friends have all the photos you took together," it said. 

The app also has the ability to make beautiful movie compilations of best photos, synchronised to music, that the user can quickly customise and share with friends. 

The app was developed in the Facebook Creative Labs and is available for download on Android and iOS platforms.

LG launches world's first 4K OLED TV in India, price starts at Rs 3,84,900...

NEW DELHI: LG has launched the world's first 4K OLED TVs in India. The 55-inch variant will be available at Rs 3,84,900 while the 65-inch model is priced at Rs 5,79,900 at select LG outlets.

The curved TVs are based on the company's proprietary WRGB technology that boasts 33 million colour sub-pixels (about 27 million more than a conventional full-HD tv) for better colours and contrast ratio and deeper blacks. OLED TVs don't need a separate backlight and the display has a thickness of 5.9mm thickness.

The TV has a maximum response time of 0.001ms (1000 times more than conventional LCD TVs) for blur free viewing as per the company.

LG OLED 4K TV features a transparent stand and the back cover is free of fasteners and holes. The TV features 3D and Harmin Kardon sound technology. 3D glasses are bundled with the TV.

The TV is powered by webOS smart TV platform and LG's magic motion remote that also supports voice recognition. It supports Wi-Fi, Miracast, MHL and Intel WiDi.

Sony Xperia C4 review: A decent upgrade...

NEW DELHI: The Sony Xperia C4 is the company's new selfie-focused smartphone. Successor to the Xperia C3, the smartphone features an upgraded full-HD display and is powered by an octa-core MediaTek processor.The internal storage capacity and RAM has also been bumped up compared to the C3. The major highlight of the phone though is still its 5MP wide-angled front camera targeting the selfie-crazy. We used the phone for a few weeks to see where it stands in the increasingly competitive mid-range segment... 

Trusted OmniBalance design
Sony Xperia C4 doesn't look very different from other members of the Sony Xperia family and follows the same OmniBalance design language. However, it's not very angular and features rounded corners and edges. It has a slightly curved back that sports a soft matte finish and feels good to hold. Since it's a mid-range device, Sony has predominantly used plastic in the construction of the phone. You also see the bumper corners seen in theXperia Z+.

The Xperia C4 doesn't feel too big or heavy despite its 5.5-inch display because of the excellent screen to body ratio. While not exactly made for one hand use, Sony has tried its best to make it less unwieldy thanks to the positioning of the hardware buttons and software features. The plastic volume rocker is located at the right edge with the typical Sony watch crown-shaped, metallic power button.

The same edge also houses a flap that hides two slots for nano sim cards and one slot for a microSD card. Sony has got rid of the plastic sim card tray and you can now simply plug in the sim cards. The other edge features the micro-USB port, which is slightly unconventional. The 3.5mm headset jack sits at the top edge.

Lenovo Vibe Shot first impressions

NEW DELHI: Lenovo has been majorly focusing on budget smartphones in the Indian market but that doesn't stop the company from introducing premium devices under the Vibe range from time to time. The company is now gearing up to launch Vibe Shot, a camera-focused phone which was showcased during this year's Mobile World Congress.

7 tips to get the most out of your home Wi-Fi...

Most people don't bother with the Wi-Fi router -- it's typically set up by the service provider or IT guy and it remains in that state for its usable life. 

However, you can fix many issues like low coverage, add features to your Wi-Fi setup and stop people from stealing your Wi-Fi quite easily. We show you how.

Get the router placement right

If you have trouble with the Wi-Fi coverage in your home, it is most likely because of where the router is kept. The range of a typical home router is around 100 feet. 

Ideally, you should place your Wi-Fi router in a central location, away from walls, mirrors and other electrical equipment. The router signal is omnidirectional -- it travels in every direction, so placing it centrally would increase the coverage throughout your home. 

Plus, make sure that your router is placed in a high position as the Wi-Fi signals travel downwards. We recommend placing it at 3/4th the height of your room as that is far enough from the ceiling to avoid any signal interruption.

Buy larger antennas

The default antenna on your router is not necessarily the best one available. Most manufacturers cut costs by using the cheapest available antennas on their router. The good thing is that you can easily switch the default antenna on most routers with enhanced versions. The antennas can be easily removed as they can be screwed off by hand.

You will see multiple options starting from as low as Rs 500 with free shipping. Keep in mind that high-gain antennas typically emit signals in one direction -- so you might have to place your router accordingly. Otherwise, get a booster antenna that works the same way as the standard antenna but increases the range and strength.

6 things you didn't know you could do on Facebook

Did you know you can add a pronunciation guide to your name on Facebook? Overlay colorful text on the photos you post? How about mark the end of a relationship without your 500 closest friends getting notified?

Many of these tips and tricks aren't well known, even to veterans of the 1.5 billion-strong people-connector and time-waster. Facebook is constantly updating its service, adding new features or tweaking old ones. A lot can slip through the cracks even if you are scrolling through your friends' updates several times a day.

Add a pronunciation guide

More than 83% of Facebook's users are outside of the US and Canada, and they use over 80 languages to communicate with friends and family. That's a lot of people, and a lot of different ways to say your name.

To add a pronunciation guide, go to the 'about' section of your profile and click on 'details about you', (called 'more about you' on mobile) then 'name pronunciation'.

Here, Facebook will offer suggestions for your first and last name that you can listen to before selecting. If none work, you can also type in your own phonetic pronouncer.

One-time password

Logging in from a public computer? If you don't feel comfortable typing in your password on a shared machine that might have malicious software, Facebook lets you request a temporary one by texting 'OTP' to 32665.

You'll get an eight-character passcode that works for the next 20 minutes and cannot be reused.

Manage notifications for individual posts

Anyone who's commented on a popular Facebook post, or belongs to a particularly chatty group, knows that those notifications telling you that "Jane Doe and 4 others also commented on a post" can get a bit annoying.

You can turn off notifications for individual posts by clicking on the globe icon on the top right corner of your web browser, then on the 'X' next to the individual notification.

You can also change your notification settings here to get fewer or more of them for each group that you belong to.

To do this on mobile, click to view the original post, then click the down arrow in the top right corner of the post. You'll see an option to "turn off notifications."

Twinkle Khanna takes a dig at Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone 

Twinkle Khanna recently launched her first book Mrs Funnybones and the event seemed to be a lot of fun. While Twinkle was at her humorous best, Karan Johar played the role of the host just like he does in Koffee With Karan. Karan conducted a rapid fire round and threw some interesting questions at Twinkle. When Karan asked Twinkle as to how would she react if she woke up as Ranbir Kapoor, witty Twinkle was quick to reply, "If I woke up as Ranbir, I wouldn't speak as the 'Kat' would have held my tongue." On being asked as to what would she do if she woke up as Deepika Padukone, Twinkle replied, "I would do everything because it is 'My Choice'."

Riteish-Genelia's narrow escape

Genelia Deshmukh and husband, Riteish were in Bangkok when the bombs went off. The bomb that had exploded close to a shrine in the centre of Thailand's capital killed at least 19 people and injured more than 120. The couple was in the mall when the bomb blasted outside. Tweeting about the same, Genelia wrote, "Bomb set off just opp the mall we are currently in -can hear the sirens blazing all over- we are safe but feel terrible for the lives lost." Assuring all those concerned about their well-being, Genelia posted, "Good morning..Thank you all for the concern.. Just to inform you we are safe.. #Thankgod4smallmercies" [sic] Riteish and Genelia were apparently shooting for an ad commercial in Bangkok.

Fossil introduces first Android Wear smartwatch...

WASHINGTON: Watchmaker Fossil has unveiled its Android Wear products at Intel's Developer Conference. 

According to the Verge, the company introduced a smartwatch, connected band and another connected watch that is not quite as high functioning as a full-on smartwatch. 

The products are powered by Intel hardware. 

The watch has silver finish, leather straps and it has the same black bar look as Motorola's Moto 360. 

Specific pricing and release dates have not yet been revealed.

Route 9 million bags in containers ranging from 90 to 17 days away no idea .....

जोधपुर. 90 कंटेनरों से लदी ट्रेन 17 दिन से लापता है। हर कंटेनर में 10 लाख का सामान है। यानी कुल नौ करोड़ रुपए का मटेरियल है, जिसे एक्सपोर्ट किया जाना था। जोधपुर से 27 जुलाई को यह ट्रेन मुंद्रा पोर्ट के लिए चली थी। तीन दिन में पहुंचना था, लेकिन अभी तक उसका कोई अता-पता नहीं है। दो अगस्त से ऑनलाइन स्टेटस बता रहा है कि ट्रेन अहमदाबाद में है। लेकिन वहां वह है ही नहीं। एक्सपोर्टर्स के शोर मचाने पर रेलवे लापता ट्रेन को ढूंढने में लगा है।

जोधपुर के एक्सपोर्टर रंजन कंसारा ने 14 जुलाई को कंटेनर बुक किया था। इसे 27 जुलाई की ट्रेन से रवाना किया गया। 30 जुलाई तक कंटेनर नहीं पहुंचा तो एक्टिव हुए। पता चला कि ट्रेन पोर्ट तक पहुंची ही नहीं है। उन्होंने ही कॉनकोर डिपो में शिकायत की। वहां पता चला कि दस दिन से ट्रेन का स्टेटस अहमदाबाद ही दिखा रहा है। पता किया तो ट्रेन वहां भी नहीं थी।

डिपो के सीएमडी को लिखित शिकायत के बाद ट्रेन को ढूंढने का काम शुरू हुआ। जोधपुर स्थित कॉनकोर के टर्मिनल मैनेजर पारस गोयल का कहना है कि बारिश की वजह से ट्रेन लेट हुई है। ट्रेन का पता लगाने के लिए एक कर्मचारी को भेजा है। लेकिन सवाल यह भी उठता है कि जोधपुर से पांच अगस्त को कंटेनरों के साथ जो ट्रेन रवाना हुई थी, वह मुंद्रा पोर्ट पर पहुंच चुकी है।

ट्रेन कौन चला रहा था, कॉनकोर को नहीं पता

मालगाड़ी के ड्राइवर 12 घंटे में बदल जाते हैं। लापता हुई ट्रेन को जोधपुर से ले जाने वाले ड्राइवर भी लौट आए हैं। उन्होंने दूसरे ज़ोन के ड्राइवरों के हवाले ट्रेन की थी, जिनसे संपर्क नहीं हो पा रहा है। कॉनकोर प्रबंधन के पास दूसरे जोन के ड्राइवरों के नंबर तक नहीं हैं।

Why Google and Larry Page created their own Alphabet???...

With the launch of its new holding company, Alphabet, Google is trying its hardest not to be Microsoft. And chief executive officer Larry Page is signaling that he does not want to be Bill Gates.

The software startup that Gates founded morphed into a tech giant and gradually took over nearly every computer desktop in the world. Its core products -- Windows, still the dominant desktop operating system, and productivity software like Office, which made computers invaluable to office workers -- minted money. With this cash flow, Microsoft funded a research arm that attracted the smartest engineers and scientists looking to do blue-sky projects.

Then the internet took over. Bill Gates went off to fight malaria and to save the world. Microsoft receded slightly into a comfortable existence as an industry behemoth that did extremely well but no longer pulled in the brightest minds. Those computer scientists were accepting jobs somewhere else: Google.

A tech CEO told me this week that hiring the best engineers creates a network effect. They want to work with the smartest people on the best projects, and the more of them a company attracts, the better projects it can tackle -- leading to more top people joining the company. That's one reason why Seattle became a hub of tech companies like Amazon; Microsoft, which is based in Redmond, Washington, had done the groundwork by luring so many techies to town.

Google's 'biggest Android update ever' might not work.....

This is hardly a surprise. Google tried updating every Android phone on the planet to fix a vulnerability that let hackers take over devices with a single text message. Now, security researchers say that the patch itself is vulnerable. Talk about stage fright! 

The original vulnerability is called Stagefright. Get it? And now it's afraid to work? This fairly scary weakness would allow hackers to embed malware in videos that could be sent to an Android device and, thanks to an Android feature, would automatically play when the user opened the Hangouts app. Since the flaw affected the operating system itself, up to a billion devices were in danger, prompting Google to release the "biggest software update the world has ever seen." 

But even fixes can have flaws. Exodus Intelligence now reports that they've been able to bypass the patch and can still exploit the Stagefright flaw. The security company says that Google's fix is giving people a "false sense of security." For it's part, Google says that 90% of Android users are safe thanks to a security feature called address space layout randomization (ASLR) that makes it more difficult for hackers to mount the attack. 

One could argue that Google itself is peddling a false sense of security by making people think that Android could ever be secure. While some have given Google the benefit of the doubt that the many disparate versions of the open source operating could remain secure with everyone from manufacturers to carriers tweaking the code, many seem to agree that Android's security problems are just getting worse. That's a thought exercise for another day, however. In the meantime, just stop using Hangouts.

Facebook Like lands man in trouble....

LONDON: If you thought your pressing "like" on Facebook was an innocent task, there's news for you. A man recently violated a court order by liking a woman's picture on Facebook and may end up facing serious charges.

It turns out that Pennsylvania resident Justin Bellanco had violated a no-contact restraining order when he "liked" 22 videos and photos of a woman he was allegedly harassing on Facebook, the Mirror reported.

24-year-old April Holland had obtained a protection from abuse order from the court on July 28, claiming that her ex-boyfriend Bellanco, 26, has been stalking and harassing her and her friends, and at one point threatened to shoot her in the knee cap.

Following the claims, a Luzerne County Judge granted a restraining order as per which Bellanco had to stay away from Holland for a year.

But after he broke the rules, he has been charged with contempt of court, even though he claims to have no clue that even "liking" on Facebook was a violation of the judge's order.

Notably, back in April 2014, Bellanco had obtained a protection from abuse order against Holland after she allegedly choked him during a domestic clash.

India-born Sundar Pichai is new CEO of Google.....

WASHINGTON: India-born Sundar Pichai was named CEO of Google on Tuesday by the company's founders Larry Page and Sergei Brin in course of a re-organization that created a mother company called Alphabet.

Pichai, 43, a Chennai native who went to IIT Kharagpur and later to Stanford and Wharton, will take charge of a slimmed down Google (quickly dubbed Google Minus) that Larry Page said will be stripped of companies "that are pretty far afield of our main Internet products," which will all go into Alphabet. Page will be CEO of Alphabet.

The new mother company will include, besides Google, units such as Calico (which focuses on Longevity), X lab (which incubates new efforts like Wing, Google's drone delivery effort) and units dealing with life sciences (such as the one working on smart contact lens that detects blood sugar level). Google's investment arms, Ventures and Capital, will also be part of Alphabet.

"We've long believed that over time companies tend to get comfortable doing the same thing, just making incremental changes. But in the technology industry, where revolutionary ideas drive the next big growth areas, you need to be a bit uncomfortable to stay relevant," Page said in a blog explaining the rational for the restructuring, adding that the "new structure will allow us to keep tremendous focus on the extraordinary opportunities we have inside of Google."
