'All-glass' iPhone 8 to include wireless charging, says analyst.

Apple's next iPhone, alleged to be an all-glass iPhone 8, will support wireless charging according to famed Apple tipster Ming-Chi Kuo. According to Kuo, similar to Apple Watch chargers, the iPhone 8 users too will be able to charge their devices using an inductive pad.

According to Kuo's note, first obtained by MacRumours, "the transition from metal to glass casing is key if Apple is to introduce a wireless charging feature in the 2017 iPhone." For, while there are several metal-bodied Android smartphones with wireless charging integrated, the metal alloys wireless frequency tolerance can limit the charging speed. The report also pegs Pegatron as the exclusive supplier for wireless chargers.



"We believe one of the reasons why new iPhones will switch from metal casing to glass casing is to support wireless charging. In order to ensure a superior performance, we believe it is most appropriate for EMS suppliers to develop and make the wireless charger because then a comprehensive test can be conducted. 

As Hon Hai needs to deploy most resources to develop and produce OLED iPhone, we expect Pegatron will be the exclusive supplier of the wireless charger," said Kuo in the notes obtained by MacRumous.

However, Kuo is not sure if Apple will bundle the wireless charger with its next-generation smartphones or not. It is more likely to go mainstream in 2018 with wider availability of wireless chargers.

In 2017, Apple may limit its wireless charging feature to the most premium iPhone 8 model or bundle all handsets with a wired charger, selling wireless chargers separately like it did with Apple Airpods.

In another note recently, Kuo revealed that the unannounced iPhone 8 may come with dual-rear cameras and dual-Optical Image Stabilisation. Although the current generation devices already have the OIS technology, the iPhone 8's telephoto zoom lens is said to additionally carry its own separate OIS feature.
