OnePlus to stop sales of OnePlus 3 in India.

It's official, Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus is discontinuing its current flagship smartphone OnePlus 3 in India. At a OnePlus 3T launch event held in the capital today, Vikas Agarwal, General Manager said that the new OnePlus 3T will eventually be replacing the former in the market.



"Eventually OnePlus 3 will be replaced by the OnePlus 3T," he told Gadgets Now. Agarwal added that the company will continue with both variants before shifting focus to the OnePlus 3T completely.

Interestingly, he maintained that the company is not moving away from the one-flagship-per-year strategy. Going by OnePlus' philosophy to 'Never Settle', the company wanted users to experience a more powerful handset along with essential upgrades.



When asked if the company will carry forward the same strategy for a probable OnePlus 4 and 4T next year, Agarwal said, "If we feel there has been a substantial upgrade that users deserve to get as soon as possible, we'll love to release it at the earliest."

OnePlus 3T costs Rs 29,999 and Rs 34,999 for the 64GB and 128GB storage variants respectively. While the former would be available in Gunmetal Gray and Soft Gold colour, the latter will only be available in Gunmetal Gray for now. It will be available exclusively on Amazon starting December 14.


OnePlus 3, on the other hand, is priced at Rs 27,999. In shelling out an extra Rs 2,000 over this, users will be able to experience the same handset but with a better processor (Qualcomm Snapdragon 821), a larger 3,400mAh battery, and a high-res 16MP front-facing camera.

The dual-SIM supporting OnePlus 3T runs OxygenOS v3.5.3 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and has a 5.5-inch Full HD (1080x1920 pixels) Optic AMOLED display. 

During its global launch, the company announced that both OnePlus 3 and 3T will receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update later this year. OnePlus 3 beta testers have already started receiving the Android 7.0 Nougat-based OxygenOS Open Beta 8.

OnePlus 3T has a 16MP primary camera with a Sony IMX298 sensor and LED flash. The camera is capable of recording 4K as well as slo-mo (120fps) videos in HD resolution. It boasts of features, such as Optical Image Stabilization, Electronic Image Stabilization, and Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF).
