Here's what the new currency notes would look like.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced that currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 2000 denominations will not be legal tender from midnight.



The government has decided to induct new currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 2000 denominations.

Here's what they will look like:

Rs:- 500 Note.



Rs:- 2000 Note.



The move aims at curbing corruption and tackling black money issues. "Corruption and black money had come to be considered a truth of life. They have been eating away like termites at our national interest. This can no longer be permitted," PM Modi added.



The PM at the beginning of his speech had stressed on the need to curb black money issues and highlighted the negative impact of corruption.
