A longside its latest earnings report, Facebook has revealed updated user data about the social network and the firm's other services, with figures that continue to climb to dizzying new heights.
Facebook currently reports a record 1.79 billion active users visiting the social network at least once a month (+16% year on year). The firm also reports one billion users for WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, and some 500 million Instagram users. And with 1.18 billion people worldwide visiting the social network every day, Facebook is by far the world's biggest online community.
The vast majority of Facebook's user traffic now comes via mobile devices, with no less than 1.66 billion people using the Facebook mobile app (+20%) each month and 1.09 billion using it every day.
Commenting on the figures, Mark Zuckerberg insists on the growing importance of video. The number of people watching "Facebook Live" video streams has quadrupled since May and Instagram's new "Stories" have already found more than 100 million users. The next challenges for Facebook will be the integration of 3D content and the development of tools for virtual reality.
