Micromax has launched a new range of smartphones in India. Dubbed Vdeo, the series consists of two 4G-enabled handsets - Vdeo 1 and Vdeo 2, priced at Rs 4,440 and Rs 4,990 respectively.
As the name suggests, Micromax's new Vdeo smartphones focus on video calling. They also come pre-loaded with Google's Duo video.
In terms of specifications, both Vdeo 1 and Vdeo 2 are largely identical. They are powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core SoC paired with 1GB of RAM. Both handsets have a 5MP rear camera (with LED flash) and a 2MP front-facing snapper. While Vdeo 1 has a 4-inch WVGA display, the Vdeo 2 comes with a 4.5-inch FWVGA panel. Battery capacity is 1,600mAh and 1,800mAh respectively.
Both smartphones come pre-bundled with a Reliance Jio SIM, offering users 3 months of unlimited data.
Commenting on the launch, Mr Shubhajit Sen, chief marketing officer, Micromax Informatics said, "....2016 has seen a marked slowdown in the long term trend of Feature Phones users shifting to Smart phones. Two barriers we identified were perceived the high cost of data and a lack of a differentiated mass-use case. With the launch of the Vdeo range, we have focused on these issues. We believe Video calling that is as simple as making a voice call, in a stable environment, will be a strong use case, especially in smaller towns. This feature, coupled with free internet connectivity and pre-bundled Reliance Jio SIM is a compelling proposition that will accelerate the switch from feature phones to smartphones."
Earlier this year, Micromax launched its Canvas Spark 4G smartphone at Rs 4,999. It has a 5-inch FWVGA display with 480x854 pixel resolution, protected with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass. Running Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the Canvas Spark is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core Spreadtrum SoC paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD cards of up to 32GB in size. The device sports a 5MP rear camera with LED flash and a 2MP front camera for selfies. The dual-SIM smartphone houses a 2,000mAh battery and offers 4G, LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS as connectivity options.
